Te Kainga Te Puna Whaiora Children's Health Camp
"Watts and Hughes have recently completed our $4,000,000 Te Kainga Whaiora Children's Health Camp in Gisborne including construction of an administration building, three accommodation units, new gymnasium and dining hall as well as new play areas and landscaping.
Watts and Hughes were employed on a Design and Build contract to provide us with a new facility that serviced our needs and also maintaining our tight budgetary needs. Also the relationship with the local residents and staff needed to be maintained.
On this project we were extremely pleased with all aspects of Watts and Hughes's work especially their professionalism and client focused approach.
Watts and Hughes provided us with an excellent design through Matrixx Architects and with Nigel Harris's assistance managed the design process and cost control/value engineering with great ability and communicated well with our Project Manager Peter Healey.
Construction was also managed very professionally with Craig McCullough and his team and provided a high quality end product that we were all proud of.

The Pacific Apartments
"Watts & Hughes completed The Pacific Apartments at 8 Maunganui Road, Mount Maunganui in May 2009. We received 3 tender prices which included a design build element. From the initial pricing the Watts & Hughes team showed they were able to think over solutions and options which would result in not only good pricing but an overall quicker and less disruptive project.
Dave Gamlen was involved in the project in the early design and pricing stage and understood the total concept of what we were looking to achieve. He assisted all the consultants and contractors in achieving our vision of a well constructed complex, delivered at a competitive price.
Being based in Auckland for much of the construction period meant we relied on Dave to keep a tight control on all aspects of construction, not just his team on site. With numerous phone calls at all times of the day and night, Dave was always available to answer any queries or assist in finding the answer. It was very important to us to have such a strong leader who could work independently and focus in the big picture as well as a very hands-on approach to quality finishes and correct materials.
Walking around the site, during our weekly site visit, the mood was never tense and the attitudes of all workers on site strongly reflected the team’s management skills. The site was always tidy and organized, and this was directly reflected in the very low number of incidents and injuries which occurred over the construction period.
As we were being challenged with a declining market it became even more crucial that we kept the project on budget. Dave and the team managed to provide what we needed to satisfy the more demanding purchaser whilst keeping the overall project within our budget. The project was ultimately delivered on time and to an excellent standard of finish which is still being commented on by purchasers today. Watts & Hughes continue to back up the building as is reflective of a company that takes pride in their projects. The end result is a credit to Watts & Hughes."

Timberlands Office Building
"Watts & Hughes Construction recently (2008) completed our new office building in Rotorua.
