This was a major project for Watts & Hughes undertaken from July 1998 to completion in Sept. 2000.

The project included an 8 cinema complex, the IMAX super theatre, a food court area, the Playhouse Bar, Planet Hollywood, Border Books, Burger King, and a number of specialty and boutique retail outlets.

This project also included the retention and refurbishment of existing facades on Queens Street. A new frontage was constructed in the main atrium to match the original Queen St style.

The project comprised a number of original decorative finishes using precast concrete panels, imported tiles and specialist coatings. The project won the Master Builders Award for Commercial Development in 2001.

The main atrium area provided a clear vertical space of more than 30 meters and the innovative and futuristic interior design was unique in New Zealand.

Major considerations for this project were access and public safety. These were largely accommodated by careful and thorough forward planning of site layout and construction sequence.

Traffic planning was carried out to minimize vehicle movements and make any necessary operations as efficient as possible.

All sub-contractors were advised of site specific protocols, particularly with regard to public safety and these procedures were restated at preletting, induction and regular site meetings.
