Ngākōroa School
Nestled on a sprawling 3400m2 greenfields site in the vibrant southern reaches of Auckland, the newly designed and constructed Ngakoroa School proudly stands as a beacon of education within the burgeoning residential subdivision of Drury in South Auckland. This primary school, catering to 420 students, has redefined the educational landscape with its innovative facilities and thoughtfully designed campus spanning an impressive 5000m2.
The property offers five new buildings - Administration & Library, a Teaching Block, a Multi-purpose Hall, Specialist Hub, and the Whare Auaha. The buildings are orientated around a central courtyard with multiple outdoor breakout spaces that lead onto sports fields and hard-surface dynamic sports courts. Grounds are landscaped throughout with native planting commencing from the car park, entrance walkways and beyond.
The two-storey teaching and learning block comprises of 18 teaching spaces, and features a cascading social space, which forms a communal gathering area for presentations and events. A separate administrative block, which acts as the school's front door, includes a library, staff facilities and a multi-purpose sports hall. The Specialist Hub purposely constructed for Parkside Specialist School caters to students requiring a wide range of special assistance in their education. The Specialist hub is located centrally within the campus to encourage Parkside students to mix and interact with peers in the wider school. The school's play equipment has been selected to ensure it is accessible for all students. The Whare Auaha (House of Creating) is a multifunctional maker space and technical learning facility for students of all ages to express creativity and for visitors to share their knowledge with learners.
The building incorporates XLAM CL/195_T3G cross-laminated timber floors, precast flat slabs, and a mixed cladding system of Weathertex WBD, Nu Wall aluminium weatherboard, and metal cladding. Internal finishes include Autex acoustic and decorative wall linings, suspended ceilings, and custom joinery. Extensive planning and coordination enabled successful delivery within a live school environment.
