Watts & Hughes is proud to partner with Woolworths New Zealand on the successful delivery of a $35 million extension and refurbishment of their South Island Distribution Centre.

This significant project includes the construction of a 16,500sqm warehouse extension, designed to accommodate an expanded range of product lines. In addition, the project scope features a new dispatch office, gatehouse, MPI room, entry house, and a car park extension. The existing main office will undergo a full refurbishment and extension to align with the site’s enhanced operational requirements.

To support increased logistical demands, the development will also deliver new truck roadways and entry/exit weigh bridges tailored to the updated site layout.

Architecturally designed with sustainability at its core, the new facility incorporates key environmentally responsible features such as rainwater harvesting systems, energy-efficient lighting, and smart control systems. The project is targeting a minimum 4-Star rating under the NZ Green Building Council’s Green Star Certification system.

Construction commenced in mid-May 2025, with practical completion of the main warehouse extension and associated road infrastructure expected by late July 2026. Following this, a second phase will see the construction of a new MHE charging area, workshop, and wash bay. Additional structural strengthening works will also be carried out to upgrade the existing facility to 80% NBS.
