Collaboration with NAWIC, Mates in Construction and MOE in supporting all women in the Construction Industry

March 14, 2024

We’re thrilled to share the success of a recent collaboration between the Ministry of Education New Zealand, National Association of Women in Construction NZ (NAWIC), and Watts & Hughes Construction. Together, we hosted a dynamic networking event at Albany Primary School’s construction site, highlighting our industry’s dedication to inclusivity and honouring the significant contributions of women.

At Watts & Hughes Construction, we strongly believe in supporting and advocating for women in the construction industry. We’re committed to investing in this area and will continue to champion diversity and inclusivity.

The day began with a warm welcome from Principal Maree Bathurst and a captivating Waiata performance by talented students. Paea Kelvery Longopoa from MATES in Construction NZ delivered a powerful presentation addressing mental health challenges for women in the industry, emphasizing the importance of support.

Our team, including Commercial Manager Lance Doyle, Project Manager Oscar Dinsdale-Jones, Site Manager Blake Willis, and H&S Manager Warren Turner, provided insights during a site walkthrough. Architects from Jasmax and a Project Manager from Octa enriched the event with their project expertise.

Engaging activities, including quizzes and a competition for the fanciest socks, added to the festive atmosphere. The event concluded with networking, a buffet, and the distribution of certificates and memorable gifts, celebrating the remarkable impact of women in construction.

We extend our gratitude to the organizers and everyone involved for their exceptional efforts. We’re proud to sponsor MATES and NAWIC and appreciate MATES in Construction for championing women in the industry.

Together, we’re committed to supporting women, advocating diversity, nurturing well-being, and fostering inclusivity for a vibrant future in construction.

Cheers to resilience, achievements, and promising transformations in our industry!
