Wairakei School Redevelopment
Following the demolition of the existing boiler house and classroom, a new 170m² extension was added to the existing Block 1. This extension comprised a new reception area, community zone, meeting room, and leadership space. The original Block 1 building (225m²) was repurposed to provide a modern library and staff room. The overall vision for the extension and refurbishment was to create a seamless link between the community and Wairakei School.
A 110m² covered deck area offers easy access to the surrounding landscaping, designed to inspire a connection with the environment. The administration, community space, and leadership extension were designed to stand out from the surrounding buildings, creating a focal point for the community. Large full-height glazing provides panoramic views of the school campus, enhancing the sense of connection between the Kura and the Bryndwr community. Tongue and groove soffits flow seamlessly into matching ceilings, with large circular details providing a striking architectural feature.
Alongside the new extension and refurbishment, mechanical upgrades were completed to Blocks 2 and 3, along with hard landscaping works and an extension to the carpark.
